Narrative and non-narrative structures

The film the girl chewing gum has no beginning, middle or end, throughout the whole film it shows people walking past in a busy street and at the end it shows an empty field. This is the same as 1001 nights which just shows women talking about their experiences. Doll face has a beginning middle and end because at the beginning we see the robot arm growing and see a woman’s face on it, then we watch her copy the face on a television by putting make up on, then the TV moves away and the robot is so desperate to be like what it sees that the arm ends up breaking. Koyanisqatsi has a different structure as it has a beginning middle and end but more to it!
1001 nights is an example of non traditional narrative because unlike Koyannisqatsi which is narrative showing a beggining middle and end using the film itself 12001 nights is narrative by the structure e.g the women talk from left to right one at a time, but in Koyannisqatsi we can clearly tell the start and finish. It uses the cave drawing to open the film and it also ends the film with the camera zooming away from the cave drawings.

You need to explain the effect that a traditional or non traditional narrative has on the way we, the audience take meaning from it.
