Use of technology, techniques and styles

In the girl chewing gum, by john smith the voice of the director has been added in to the film to make it sound like he is on the set, but in a film like 1001 nights you cannot hear the director, Janane Al Ani’s voice, all we hear is the women telling their stories. The similarities of both these films are that there doesn’t seem to be a begging middle or an end and there isn’t really a point to both stories. The differences of the films is that, the movie ‘the girl chewing gum’ is made using a regular black and white camera because there was no computer technology around at this time, whereas the film ‘1001 nights’ has been made using more modern technology because the women have been put into the same picture and paused when they have finish talking. Doll Face is a good example of modern technology because it uses computer graphics to create the robot arm and add the real woman’s face onto it. This film shows us how people want to be like what they see in the media and will do a lot to be like that, but they will never be able to be exactly the same. This is shown at the end of the film when the robot arm breaks.

Remember you need to view these in the context of the time they were created. Koyaanisqatsi was modern at the time it was created? Try and tie these together and discuss them under the same headings i.e. Effects, Styles or production costs. How have aspects such technology or money affected the overall meaning of the work, or is it just the look of the work that changes?
